Ficus wood (otherwise known as Fig) is a specialty turning wood that is rarely found on the wood market. It’s great for woodturning due to its ease of cutting and sanding, not to mention its high polish. This material was sawn from a very large Ficus log that was salvaged from a fire. Although Ficus is not a dense species and turns more similarly to Basswood or soft Maple, it does lends itself well to woodturning due to its easy workability. This is the perfect material to turn into a bowl or other woodturning article. The twice turning method is recommended to prevent drying cracks and checks as this wood was freshly cut in June of 2025 and contains moisture. The wood has been completely wax sealed to aid in the drying process. Enjoy turning something new!.
