Oregon Ironwood is the densest native tree in Oregon! In fact, it sinks in water. Colors range from brown to pink in the heartwood with a yellowish sapwood. If you are uncomfortable with checks this is not the species for you as checking can develop during the drying process. If you can work around checks, this wood is well worth the effort for its great workability and fine grain. This Oregon Ironwood is freshly cut; it is completely wax sealed to slow the drying process and minimize checking. It is ideal for turned articles, knives, and inlay. Many pieces have a live edge. Live edges can contain checks and splits. This piece has inclusions. Please see pictures for details.
